NZLA  Annual Awards

In 2004 Gabrielle Delyse donated four of her beautiful llama paintings to the
New Zealand Llama Association. 

It was decided at the first AGM to retain these to be used as annual awards to members who have gone out of their way to promote llamas the Association and the welfare of llamas.

 

This year’s awards go to....

~~  2009-10 ~~

Keith Payne Nominated by Lynn Barrett and Fred & Emma Schwithal

“For his positive attitude and approach towards llamas and llama lovers, including: DOC pack llama project, pack training initiative, trail blazing llamas on Kaikoura Coastal and Hurunui Tramping Trails, ... He's an inspiration to all llama lovers.”

Robyn Robinson Nominated by Fred & Emma Schwithal and Diane Kelly

“For having a well-organised AGM that was very enjoyable, and for her ‘Green Lights for Llamas’ attitude.”

Diane Kelly Nominated by Robyn and Mike Robinson

“For hosting the successful Joanne Shook clinic including weeks of preparation work by her and husband Blair and for encouraging many new members to join during the last year.”

Sara Crane and Simon Gurnsey Nominated by Julie Insley

“For stepping up and helping with the organising and running of the AGM, including the use of their castle. And for creating the very nice AGM blog.

Justine Campbell - “has done a
wonderful job at stewarding both the Canterbury and Malvern shows for the last year.”

Alex Robinson - “has embraced her membership with gusto,
attending last year’s AGM as a new member, and then organising a productive weaving workshop for NZLA members earlier this year. Good on you Alex, thank you for your enthusiasm.”

Penny King - “for her wonderful efforts with the calendars 2005-2007, long service as Vice President, her great initiative on the Camelid Welfare via SFF and organising of this year's AGM.” Nominated by Pat Butterfield

Louisa Buchanan - “for her efforts in improving the breeding quality of the NZ llama stock. This can be seen by the large number of Clar Innis bred llamas that win shows for their new owners.”

Betty Rae Nominated by Syth Hoyle. “...for her passion and enthusiasm for using llama fleeces for knitting and felting. She has made many fabulous creations, some of which are on display at Cruella's in Richmond. Betty has also run several felting workshops, which we hear rave reports about. She is very happy to pass on her knowledge to others.”

Jill Allen Nominated by Julie Insley. “...for her work in organizing a llama
section at the Mackenzie Highland A & P Show (held in Fairlie) for two years running. I appreciate that there is a lot of work to be done to make things run smoothly. So thank you for promoting llamas and getting them out in the public.”

Julie Insley Nominated by Anne Thompson “...in recognition of her hard work in putting together a top class magazine, which is always packed full of
relevant information from cover to cover.”

Anne Thompson Nominated by Jane Buxton “...for organising "Llama Lunches". These are informal llama owners' get-togethers and are a great excuse for llama farmers to get off the farm and dine out - which I for one, hardly ever do. And over a relaxed lunch we can catch up and chat with other llama lovers. It's a brilliant concept and I think Anne
deserves recognition for it.”

Jane Buxton for hosting clinics and PR work.

Jan McLay for her role as Show Steward at Christchurch & Sheffield.

Percy Llama (Graeme Butterfield) for contributions to the magazine.

Matthew & Ruth Benge for promoting & utilising llama fibre.

Ann Tyler Moore... promotes llamas at every opportunity - in schools, kindergartens, charitable events, as well as taking them to rest homes, hospitals etc with very little recognition. She has put in hours of unpaid work taking a group of young girls through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards programme.

Uta Bleidistel... for her rest-home and Cancer Society support with llamas and also for making the front page news twice with beautiful photos of llamas doing the PR thing in Taranaki.

Penny King... for her work in forming the New Zealand Llama Association, her endless hours of Vice President work, registration setup, Kumeu show, organising safety meetings and calendars.
